Day 1: Im sick. Real sick. Not quite sure what I caught but going through the Midwest with a small group, I ended up getting sluggish about halfway through South Dakota, even more than usual with the healing on my leg from that rooftop slip a couple months back. Was hacking up a lung by the state line. Some people think it’s a different form of the virus that ended the world. Others think its some sort of mutated influenza. I'd bet on Pneumonia from all this damn wet and cold weather. All I know is, I can barely breathe, let alone move. Everyone elected to move on without me, they thought I was as good as dead. Bastards took all my gear too, save what was in my pockets and in my coat. All I’ve got is a buck knife, a few granola bars, and my canteen. I started with less, the day the world ended. Fought my way out of an office building with nothing but a cafeteria table leg, so I’d say this is a better start. Well, better except every step I take makes me cough like I’ve taken a bullet in the lung.

Day 16: Managed to crawl my way back to Hill City to pick one of the last stashes we left behind. Guess they really liked my advice, got a small bag of food and water. PPK that’s held together with bailing wire and duct tape, but it still fires. Im getting worse. Cant breathe much at all save for when Im laying down, and cant outrun even the slowest shambler. I’m gonna crawl up into one of those nice house’s attics, hide out. Getting cold anyway, might have to spend a few weeks here til I get back on my feet. There was some antibiotics in the bag, too… But part of me thinks they wont help.

Day 22: Started coughing up blood today. Collecting water in a bucket outside the attic window. Cant stand up.

Day 25: Not gonna make it out. Bleeding’s worse, near constant. Aint Pneumonia, more likely TB… Those damp caves we stayed in back in Fork County. Shit like that happens there. Guess this is it, for me. Ran out of Ammo getting myself up here, so I can’t even get the decency of a clean exit. I’d ask for a prayer, or God’s mercy, but Im sure God’s been a shambling corpse longer than men have.

I was constantly disturbed every time I tried to start the text. I was able to read the whole thing. It was wonderful.
